Why was the National Monument built?
The first National Monument, a cenotaph, was set up by the British government to commemorate WWI, WWII and honour the fallen heroes of the Malayan Emergency. The second, and present, RM600, 000 National Monument took over five years to construct.
Why should we visit the National Monument?
The National Heroes Memorial is to commemorate the war heroes who participated in World War I and World War II during the state of emergency in Malaysia from 1948 to 1960. The monument is close to Kuala Lumpur’s Lakeside Park, ASEAN Park, Parliament Building and National Mosque, and there are many attractions nearby.
